Our Shepshed Practice Location We are located by the roundabout in the centre of Shepshed, next to the bus shelter. We are housed in an impressive former Victorian bank (Grade 2 listed). We have been in our current location since december 2001, prior to this we were in a smaller building 300 yards away, the practice had been established over 15 years at our previous location. Surgeries We have five fully equiped modern surgeries. Four surgeries are used by dentists and the fifth surgery is used by our hygienist, this surgery can also be used as a dentist surgery should the need arise. All our surgeries are fully computerised. X-Rays We have the latest Digital intra oral and OPG (full face) X-ray equipment. This has several advantages over the traditional film based x-rays which are still used by most dental practices. Firstly digital x-rays are available instantly, allowing us to give immediate diagnosis or to check progress on such things as root fillings mid treatment. Secondly the radiation dose for digital xrays is significantly lower than film based x-rays, making it much safer for patients and staff. Finally digital x-rays do away with the need for the handling and safe disposal of caustic chemicals, used for developing film. Sterilisation We follow strict guidelines to control cross infection:- We use disposable items wherever possible, such as plastic cups. Non-disposable items such as dental drills and hand instruments are sterilised after every use. Disposable gloves are always worn and changed for every patient. Work surfaces and handles are cleaned and disinfected between patients. All of our drills, hand instruments and trays are taken to our central sterilisation room after each patient. Each of our re-usable instruments are washed individually and then sterilised in a steam autoclave to a temperature of 134 degrees centigrade. Children We recommend that children register from birth at the practice and attend as early as possible, to familiarise themselves with the surroundings and receive advice from the dentist and hygienist. We have a large play castle for our younger patients and a play station for the older ones. Disabled Facilities Wheelchair Access is gained via a passageway running along the side of our building, with entry via the large rear door. We also have a fully equiped disabled toilet. The surgeries are all designed to allow for wheelchair access.
